AN INTERACTIVE EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE

What if the world looked different?

Perception Lab uses live camera imagery, sound, and designed visual effects to start a conversation about how perception can shift. Explore the experience, then see where a simulation stops short.

01 / THE IDEA

A window into perception, built for discussion.

Perception Lab is a browser experience for curious visitors, educators, and community outreach. It offers visual studies inspired by reported sensory changes associated with several substances, alongside a baseline view for comparison.

Each scene is an artistic interpretation. Experiences vary from person to person, and the app deliberately separates its visual choices from the research notes beside them.

02 / INSIDE THE LAB

Explore. Compare. Question.

Start with a sample scene, or give your camera permission when you are ready.

▣

See a familiar scene change

Choose a profile and move the illustrative dose slider to change the visual treatment. It does not correspond to a real substance dose. Compare the result with the original view at any point.

Use your camera

Apply a treatment to a live camera view on a compatible phone or computer. Camera access is requested only when you choose it.

03
♫

Listen to a sound study

Try a quiet synthetic sound, or select your own audio file for a locally processed illustration of altered sound.

Share a still

Save a rendered image at up to 4K resolution, depending on your device. A split view offers a simple phone-viewer preview.

03 / THE IMPORTANT PART

A changed picture is only part of the story.

A camera effect can suggest shifts in color, focus, or visual pattern. It cannot recreate a person’s full subjective experience or reveal how well they can pay attention, decide, coordinate, or react.

Perception Lab cannot identify a substance, calculate a dose or blood alcohol level, or determine whether someone is safe to drive. Its purpose is to support thoughtful conversation, not to make medical or legal judgments.

BEYOND THE FRAME

What you can exploreDesigned visual treatments, comparison, sound illustrations, and research notes.

What you cannot measureImpairment, reaction time, judgment, overdose risk, or a person’s actual experience.

How to use itAs a seated, optional educational demonstration. Do not use a filtered camera view to move through the world.

04 / YOUR DEVICE, YOUR VIEW

The camera stays with you.

In this prototype, camera frames and selected audio are processed in your browser. They are not uploaded to Perception Lab. The sample scene works without camera access, and you can stop the camera or sound at any time.

For phone camera access, open the site over HTTPS and allow the browser permission when prompted. Split view is a simple side-by-side preview; headset passthrough varies by platform and is not provided here.
